The International School for Primary Education (InSPE), Bucharest is a combined Nursery and Primary School which takes children from 1 year old up to 11 years old. It was formerly know as the International Nursery School of Bucharest but in the last few years the age range was extended to that of a Primary School.

It was established in 1994 by a group of parents to serve the educational needs of children from the expatriate community in Bucharest within an English speaking environment. Subsequently, admission was extended to the local Romanian community. However, English is the only language spoken throughout the school.

The International School for Primary Education stays truly International by accepting no more than 20% of any nationality. There are over 30 nationalities in the school. All staff have a high standard of English and they are a mix of English, Scottish, South African, Greek and Romanian. This reflects the International mix of the InSPE community.

The school is located in the North of Bucharest within the new Green Lake Residences development. It is in an area of Bucharest that is easily accessible. The school is 5 minutes from Baneasa shopping mall and 10 minutes drive from Arcul de Triumf.

The school is unique in Bucharest and prides itself on its ethos which puts the child at the centre of learning. At The International School for Primary Education time is taken to find out who the child is and children are given time to think and reflect.

The classes are small and teachers teach in teams. Within a class all of the teachers teach all of the children all of the time. The integrated nature of the curriculum and the hands on approach support individual attention.

The school provides a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum which addresses the developmental needs of the whole child. It is based on best practice in UK Nursery Schools and the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, with influences from around the world, enriched and adapted for an International community

Children often start with no English and English is not taught in the school. As English is the only language that is heard, children absorb the English and learn it alongside their home language. They learn that the context for English is the school. The context for their home language is home.

The International nature and multi-cultural mix of the school is seen as an asset and we celebrate all cultures wherever and whenever possible. We often use our International families as valuable resource providers, for example by inviting them into school to introduce a country or culture, bring in artifacts or prepare their favourite food.
